UWC Logo We are looking for a qualified and dedicated full time cover teacher for Physical Health Education our Primary School with the age group 4 to 11 years old. The new colleague is expected to work on average 40 hours per week. The new colleague will participate fully as a team member in an academic department and within the whole school. At UWC Maastricht every teacher is considered to be part of the pastoral care structure. Therefore subject teachers support students not only in their academic learning but also in their development as a person. The PHE team in our primary school consists of 2 teachers and they work closely with 3 more colleagues in our Secondary School.

This COVER Position is full time and for the full academic year 2025-2026.

Education degree
  • Completed Bachelor in Primary Education is required (PABO), with specialisation in Physical Health Education OR a Bachelor in Physical Health Education (ALO)
  • (International) Teaching Qualification / Certificate, like a Bachelor or Master in Education or QTS with induction, that qualifies for accreditation according to the Dutch educational system.
  • We need someone who already is local and has a EU passport or a valid work permit.

  • Preferred professional experience
  • Experience in teaching PHE in a Primary School is desirable
  • Working with transient student populations and Third Culture Kids
  • Working with diverse student needs in an integrated and inclusive classroom
Professional competencies
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following competencies on a professional proficiency level:
  • Empathy and understanding of multilingual learners and awareness of the variables at play with internationally mobile students.
  • Continues to pursue professional development in teaching and learning by attending school wide professional development days.
  • Be flexible with the teaching of age groups taught across primary school.
  • Reflection and development: Reflecting regularly on the development of personal and professional capabilities.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Fluent English Level: reading, writing, speaking; a professional command of the English language. If you are not as fluent yet, you will learn quickly while working.
  • Safeguarding

Terms of Employment
You will get a temporary contract of employment under Dutch law: the initial contract is until July 15, 2026.

To be able to work in the Netherlands, a (foreign) staff member must be able to successfully apply for a Dutch VOG (certificate of good conduct).
UWCM will assist in the application process for a VOG.
