Hotel Management School Maastricht
The Hotel Management School Maastricht (HMSM) is part of the Faculty of Hotel and Facility Management of Zuyd University of Applied Sciences. Our school is internationally viewed as one of the leading institutes in its field. We offer a Bachelor of Business Administration and tw0 Master of Science programmes.

HMSM supports and educates students to become qualified and passionate hospitality professionals able to contribute to the development and innovation of the (inter)national hospitality industry. To realise this we offer a 4 year bachelor course which comprises a foundation programme (5 semesters) and a specialisation programme (3 semesters) with three tracks: Hotel Management, Food Service and Horizons in Hospitality.
Our bachelor programme is taught in English and in Dutch and we invest intensively in the further development of our international community.

The focus of the Hotel Management School Maastricht is the next step in hospitality. We continually invest in the further development of our educational programme, with a special focus on the importance of practical experience in the foundational programme. Therefore, we are looking for a new enthusiastic colleague who will contribute to our team as a

passionate, inspiring and innovative instructor kitchen

who, in collaboration with the restaurant supervisor, will support, motivate and act as a driving force for a team of self–managing first year students, responsible for the kitchen processes and exploitation of the school’s internal restaurant, named Refresh, which is catering to our students and staff members.

Our new colleague:
  • is focussed on developing students in kitchen techniques and gastronomy and has an eye for recognizing and stimulating individual talents;
  • stimulates students’ own initiative and individual responsibility during their practicals in the kitchen of the restaurant;
  • strengthens students food cost knowledge from a practical point of view in correspondence with the theory instructors;
  • has excellent coaching and communication skills both in English and Dutch;
  • is responsible for the food cost and contributes to a positive financial performance of Refresh;
  • contributes to the restaurant’s F&B concept (“local and fresh”) in an innovative environment;
  • is a reliable team player with the ability to work independently;
  • is willing to work flexible hours (evening, sometimes weekends);
  • needs to be resilient, flexible and remain calm and collected in a dynamic environment;
  • contributes to the HMSM community by participating in extracurricular activities such as the introduction week, special events, etc.;
  • has charisma, ‘guts’ and humour.
What do we expect?
  • bachelor degree or equivalent experience in food & beverage, specifically in the area of kitchen management, menu engineering and financial F&B control;
  • a sound understanding of / skills and experience in catering kitchen techniques;
  • an international mind set, demonstrable competence in English on C1 level in order to teach our international students;
  • network abilities concerning secondary vocational education (MBO);
  • a proactive, entrepreneurial and ambitious attitude;
  • promoting a work environment that fosters creative thinking, co-creation and innovation;
  • skills concerning relevant computer applications for MicrosoftOffice and the Points of Sales systems.

  • A position for (minimum 0,8) 1,0 FTE, initially for a period of one year at Zuyd University or via payrolling (Randstad Employability). Should you prove to be suitable and perform favourably, then the contract may be extended, provided operating circumstances remain unchanged.
  • the salary scale awarded depends on the candidate’s qualifications and experience, and is set in accordance with the collective labour agreement (CAO) in the higher vocational education sector within the career prospects of scale 8 per April 2019 with a minimum of € 2,465.90 and a maximum of € 3,386.57 gross per month when appointed full-time.
