Within its real estate investment management business area, with 7 bn EUR in AuM in Europe, it seeks a strong HR Director / Alliance business partner for its residential investment management business. That business grew from zero to 3 bn EUR AuM in 3 years and is active in 9 countries and 9 residential segments across Europe.

It is the market leader for pan-European residential investments. Consequently, it enjoys increasing copy-cat competition from well-established investment managers with a strong integrated European platform that now enter into this niche. In response, Catella has set up an Alliance that safeguards its unique market facing strengths as well as a sufficiently integrated and scalable platform that can enduringly satisfy institutional investors of the highest order.

As a result of the further growth of the organisation, Avance Executive Search is looking for a:

Alliance HR-Director / Business-Partner (1.0 fte)

The position is opened in the Catella Benelux office in Maastricht. For 2019, the Alliance Manager focuses on the Benelux office (15-20 fte) and the Berlin office (40-45 fte), and prepares the subsequent roll-out of the strategic agenda to the other Alliance partners in London/Edinburg, Paris, Madrid, Copenhagen, Warsaw. Both the Berlin and Maastricht offices have HR Officers that cover all operational HR activities, and who shall report to the Alliance HR Director.

Tasks and responsibilities
  • Alliance HR Business-Partner as a demanding specialist function;
  • HR-Consulting and accompaniment to the managing directors of different Catella-entities (Alliance);
  • Development and Implementation of a strategic HR-Agenda and a Performance Management System based on a new HR Management Methodology and a first pilot project in 2018, based on feedback maximisation and bureaucracy minimisation;
  • Planning and implementation of initiatives on numerous (strategic) personnel issues, for example: employee surveys, culture/behaviour, diversity & inclusion, optimization of employee retention concepts and many more, management of conferences, and this in close contact with the individual HR officers of the respective entity and their managing directors;
  • Development of a remuneration structure with variable components that are also long-term oriented, e.g. linked to the fund results (alignment of interest) and offering space for further motivation components such as further training, etc. – one System for all-Alliance-entities;
  • Collaboration with PR to bring about the on boarding of new talent (Professional recruiting of executives and specialists);
  • Responsible for (European) talent management (strategic staff development);
  • Standardizing bonus structures within the cross border business;
  • Contact person for the managing directors and local Alliance office managers in all fundamental questions of European residential personnel management and personnel policy;
  • Advises managing directors on personnel planning as well as exit and entry management processes;
  • Competent and proactive advice and support for executives and employees on all personnel-relevant and labour-law issues;
  • Independent management and implementation of personnel projects taking strategic requirements into account;
  • Representation of the management in labour court proceedings;
  • Fantastic motivator and communicator for the Alliance.
Personality and skills
  • Ideally a university degree in economics with a focus on human resources management;
  • At least two to five years of relevant professional experience in a comparable task;
  • Sound knowledge in the areas of labour law, personnel organisation;
  • Basic knowledge of tax and social security law as well as in the structure and creation of analyses and reports;
  • A high understanding of real estate job requirements, functions, structures and processes as well as vacant positions in our organisations;
  • Understand very well the political and labour law motives behind decisions;
  • Has good consulting skills and strong communication skills and is able to explain personnel policy decisions convincingly, bring the idea forward that the fuel of the Alliance is the quality of its people;
  • Sound skills in dealing with MS Office products (Excel, Word, PPT);
  • Strong communication skills; convincing written and oral communication skills;
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English is obligatory, good knowledge of German is desirable;
  • Strong-willed with a high sense of responsibility, engagement, agility and proactivity;
  • High load capacity;
  • Can establish himself/herself in an international environment.
